The gate ... A symbol of a hardworking village household. Maramures gates are known worldwide. Or, in Gorj, the famous Gate of the Kiss. But all counties have their gates, located at the entrances to their villages. Tantareni village is our southern gate, the first commune in Gorj located on the route - Craiova – Targu Jiu – Petrosani. A beautiful gate shows that the people are hardworking and wise.
Hardworking because the village appearance clearly shows it. Wise because they know how to support the development of their future generations. The Municipal Library is an example of the local administration’s concern for smoothing the differences between rural and urban. It is a lively library, a solid support for those who need knowledge and information. It is a library that attracts not only by its establishment and collection of documents, but also by the work done by Iuliana Ionescu, the librarian.
I met Mayor Maria Vasilescu during the Biblionet program first round selection site visits. After being "overwhelmed" with stories about achievements such as: a social canteen, a local broadcasting station, we found out that by the summer of 2010 they will also have the first library playground in the county. I have to admit that the joy of this news was accompanied by some skepticism due to issues local authorities are facing, as well as various additional activities in which the librarian was already involved: group folk dances and modern broadcasting station program.
Still, the summer of 2010 marked indeed the inauguration of the first library playground in Gorj County, in Tantareni village. Our joy was far exceeded by that of the children who had come on this occasion. Dressed for celebration, both the body and the soul, the young beneficiaries of this location really felt in the realm of games and stories.
Now, as I write this, I can say that the success of the local administration is a certainty. From recent information we found that volunteers were needed to prolong the program and the budget for primary materials needed (crayons, coloring book, toys, etc) was supplemented.
And I expect other libraries in Gorj to bring me news of achievements that help our institutions increase their input in raising our young hopes to be certainties.
